At seventeen, Cordelia is an ordinary teen with an extraordinary and frightening secret. A secret that induces vivid dreams which she not only experiences true love, but crippling fear while barely escaping with her life each night.

After a life altering event, Cordelia has an unexpected encounter with Evan, the mysterious boy from her dreams, who reveals who and what she is; a descendant of the Greek gods. At that moment everything she knows of her world is a lie, and she must leave the present and go into the past to assume the role she was put on this earth for; safeguarding her ancient empire amidst evil forces that toil hastily to destroy it.

In a race against time, Cordelia must decide if she is truly a part of this dangerous world, or risk defying the gods, and ultimately lose the boy who has put a claim on her heart.

Historical, Romance, Paranormal & Mythology all rolled up in to a wonderful story. That is a story I want to read.

After the Golden Age ---> Mad Scientist's Pick

Author: Carrie Vaughn
Publisher: Tor Books --> April 12th 2011
Subject: Science Fiction, Comics, Superheroes
Binding: Hardcover
Genre: Young Adult
Pages: 304

Can an accountant defeat a supervillain? Celia West, only daughter of the heroic leaders of the superpowered Olympiad, has spent the past few years estranged from her parents and their high-powered lifestyle. She’s had enough of masks and heroics, and wants only to live her own quiet life out from under the shadow of West Plaza and her rich and famous parents.

Then she is called into her boss’ office and told that as the city’s top forensic accountant, Celia is the best chance the prosecution has to catch notorious supervillain the Destructor for tax fraud. In the course of the trial, Celia’s troubled past comes to light and family secrets are revealed as the rift between Celia and her parents grows deeper. Cut off from friends and family, Celia must come to terms with the fact that she might just be Commerce City’s only hope.

This all-new and moving story of love, family, and sacrifice is an homage to Golden Age comics that no fan will want to miss.

A story about superheroes! Did I win some kind of jackpot? I do believe this will be a fun book. Even though it is already out I will be waiting to make time for this one. That counts, right?

Before I bid you farewell and on your way I will leave you with a link so that you may enjoy an excerpt for this very fine book.... Web travel!

Happy Steampunkery Reading!

Title: Lola and the Boy Next Door
Author: Stephanie Perkins
Published: September 29th, 2011
Synopsis: For budding costume designer Lola Nolan, the more outrageous, the outfit—more sparkly, more fun, more wild—the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins move back into the house next door.

When the family returns and Cricket—a gifted inventor and engineer—steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.(from goodreads.com)

After reading Perkins' first book, Anna and the French Kiss, I'm very anxiously awaiting this one, Lola and the Boy Next Door. And to be perfecly honest, I'm totally cynnical, in real life, when it comes to love and romance. HOWEVER, in books, I'm a hopeless romantic. I wish life could work out like it does in books and therefore, I only really want the best for the characters. Call it whatever you will. So, with a title like "The Boy Next Door", I'm hoping for all the good things for Lola. Because when I was young, all I wanted was the boy next door. It didn't work that way and I'm very happy with my lot in life - mostly *wink wink* - but it's always fun to see when it works for others. Sidenote: I also love books where best friends end up together. :D
