Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries.
Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.

Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention.
But it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King, who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. His is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost-regardless of her plans or desires.

Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; everything.
Faery intrigue, mortal love, and the clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in Melissa Marr's stunning twenty-first-century faery tale.
First line of Book:The Summer King knelt before her.

Review: This was one strange book...

I'm not much into fairies, but I have to say, I quite liked these. I don't know much about faeries, have not read that many books about faeries, so I can't tell you to what point this is original. But what I can tell you is that I love this universe, in fact, I always love it when the paranormal creatures are among us, undetected. So of course I loved the world Ms Marr created. The characters though, not so much. Apart from Ash, Keenan and Seth, and sometimes Donia, but the Winter Queen was so...mean. She was just that-mean. Nothing else. Of course I like a good, evil villain but it's really hard to get the perfect balance between evilness and humanity.

I really liked Ash. She kicked butt. There was this specific quote that I really liked, but i can't remember it right now that made me laugh out loud and have some respect for her. I also really liked Seth. I'm not much into tattoos and piercings but he seemed to be, well, hot-really hot. And tall. And dark. And handsome. Compared to him, Keenan was not.

I warn you, there are a lot of profane words in this book. They didn't bother me but they might bother you, so...you should know.

The plot was predictable-I could see who was going to end up with who, but there was still one thing that surprised me in the end.

I would recommend this if you like faeries and don't mind some cussing.
Rating: 3/5
Quotes from book:
"Mortals are such fragile things. Just tender feelings walking around exposed in their delicate shells...Easy to crush."

"And he smiled at her, truely smiled- wicked and lovely..."

I just met Mellisa Marr on the Smart Chicks Tour, but haven't read any of her books. Great review :)

I also gave this book a similar rating, book 2 was a disappointment though :( Are you planning on reading it?

The second book changes main characters and was just boring to be honest :(

But lots of people love this series, so maybe it improves for you :D
